Pirelli P ZERO R: a UHP summer tire for supercars, blending track-ready performance with everyday efficiency

The Pirelli P ZERO R is a new road tire for sports cars—from GT models to supercars—designed to sit between the traditional P ZERO and the more track-focused P ZERO Trofeo RS. The goal is straightforward: deliver more performance than a standard UHP road tire, while remaining versatile enough for everyday use. Pirelli highlights a wider operating window with reduced road noise, contained rolling resistance, and improved grip delivery, all intended to make sporty performance easier to access on both road and track. 

Predictable control through an optimized footprint: stability under braking and during weight transfer

Pirelli places strong emphasis on maximizing the tire’s footprint—the only contact point between car and road. This engineering focus is intended to provide balanced and predictable behavior during weight transfer and under braking, supporting improved stopping distances and better handling on road and track. The result Pirelli targets is higher lateral force generation and stronger roadholding, which translates into a more confidence-inspiring driving feel when the pace increases. 

Resin Blend Technology: a wider working range without sacrificing performance

A key differentiator of the P ZERO R is Pirelli’s Resin Blend Technology. Pirelli explains that special resins are used in a triple-resin compound that activates within specific temperature ranges, allowing the tire to adapt to different driving environments. The intention is to deliver sporty performance in ideal conditions, drivability in normal use, and safety in wet or cold conditions—helping the tire remain usable across a broad set of real-world scenarios. 

Track consistency and road efficiency: tread design tuned for cornering and lower rolling resistance

Pirelli positions the P ZERO R to deliver consistent performance on track “without fading,” achieved through a compound-and-tread synergy. The center section is stiffened with more robust blocks, while the outer section uses a land/sea ratio aimed at improving cornering behavior. Efficiency is also addressed through shallower groove depth, which Pirelli says helps reduce energy dissipation and lower rolling resistance, while noise reduction is highlighted to improve comfort in top-level cars. 

Advanced options for modern powertrains: multi-compound design and ELECT availability

Pirelli notes additional high-end technologies for the P ZERO R. A multi-compound tread concept is described as supporting longer tire life by using a stiffer center area to reduce wear and a softer edge compound to enhance cornering support during sports driving. The tire is also available with Pirelli’s ELECT package for battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, aligning the P ZERO R with the requirements of modern high-output powertrains.
