3/4 front Chrysler Pacifica 2027

2027 Chrysler Pacifica : the minivan that refuses to disappear

There was a time when the minivan was almost the automatic choice for large families. Then SUVs arrived, with their higher ground clearance, more rugged appearance and more adventurous image. Yet after a few kilometres behind the wheel of the 2027 Chrysler Pacifica, it becomes clear why this category refuses to disappear. Chrysler has chosen to modernize its full-size family vehicle rather than radically reinvent it. And that is probably the right decision. Built in Canada, the Pacifica retains its proven architecture, sliding doors and, above all, the remarkable versatility that many SUVs still struggle to match. For 2027, it receives a redesigned front end, an illuminated grille and revised lighting signatures.

Under the hood, Chrysler is not trying to reinvent the mechanical package. The 2027 Pacifica retains the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6, producing 287 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. This approach may seem conservative at a time when many competitors are embracing electrification, but it has one essential quality : predictability. The Pacifica remains a comfortable, quiet highway cruiser with enough power to carry a full family and its luggage. Towing capacity reaches 1,633 kg when properly equipped. Fuel consumption varies considerably depending on the drivetrain : a front-wheel-drive version can achieve as low as 8.4 L/100 km on the highway, while all-wheel-drive models consume somewhat more.

And it is precisely that all-wheel-drive system that remains one of the Pacifica’s most interesting features for Canadian drivers. In a country where snow, slush and icy roads are part of everyday life, having four-wheel traction in a minivan is a genuine advantage. The Select AWD, Limited AWD and Pinnacle AWD allow buyers to enjoy that added traction without having to switch to an SUV. But all-wheel drive should never be confused with unlimited grip : four driven wheels do not replace four quality winter tires. The Pacifica is a relatively heavy vehicle, making tire quality particularly important when it comes to braking distances, stability and maintaining a predictable line on winter roads.

Tires : a choice that shouldn’t be overlooked

The 2027 lineup offers several tire sizes depending on the trim level. The Pacifica Select uses P235/65R17 tires, while Select AWD and Limited versions are equipped with P245/60R18 tires. Limited AWD models also use 18-inch tires, while the luxurious Pinnacle AWD moves up to P245/50R20. Chrysler also offers self-sealing tires on certain configurations. For Canadian drivers, this range of sizes is worth considering when it comes time to replace tires. A 17- or 18-inch wheel generally allows for a taller sidewall, which can be beneficial on rough Canadian roads, while the Pinnacle’s 20-inch setup emphasizes appearance and steering precision. For winter driving, however, choosing a tire specifically designed for Canadian conditions remains far more important than the wheel diameter itself.

Inside, the Pacifica once again demonstrates why minivans have traditionally been unbeatable family vehicles. The Stow ‘n Go seating system allows the cabin to be transformed quickly, while seating for seven provides generous space for passengers. Chrysler also retains its 10.1-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen and offers a range of family-oriented features, including the FamCAM interior camera, Stow ‘n Vac vacuum and available 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. The 2027 Pacifica is not trying to become an SUV. Instead, it does something smarter : it remains a minivan and fully embraces the advantages of that formula. In a market obsessed with trends, that commitment to its original mission may well be its greatest strength.
