For a long time, when we thought of an all-terrain tire, we imagined something noisy, aggressive, and a little stiff. In short, perfect for mud, but not always pleasant in everyday driving. It was the kind of tire that was mostly associated with boring pickup trucks or particularly difficult trails. Clearly, though, that image is starting to change, as shown by the launch of the BFGoodrich Trail-Terrain T/A+.
The brand, already known for its off-road tires, is no longer speaking only to extreme trail enthusiasts. With this new generation of tires, BFGoodrich is now also targeting SUV, crossover, and pickup drivers who spend most of their time on the road, but still want to be ready for the cottage, gravel roads, country lanes, or weekend getaways.
An All-Terrain Tire Built for Real Life
The concept is actually quite interesting. A modern all-terrain tire faces a lot of challenges. It has to be comfortable, durable, confidence-inspiring in the rain, and still reasonable when it comes to fuel consumption. That is precisely why BFGoodrich presents its Trail-Terrain T/A+ as a tire for everyday adventures. And you can see it in the announced numbers: 25% longer tread life, 10% better traction on wet pavement, and 5% less rolling resistance compared with the previous model.
These improvements may not be the most spectacular, I’ll admit, but they are probably the most important for the majority of drivers. Better tread life saves money in the long run. Better wet traction is useful almost every week. Reduced rolling resistance matters for fuel consumption. These are qualities that truly count.
In the same spirit, BFGoodrich is also continuing the rollout of its All-Terrain T/A KO3, with a lineup that now reaches 119 sizes. This is the more rugged option, and probably the one closer to the traditional image of an all-terrain tire. It is aimed mainly at those who often drive on gravel, tow, or generally need a tougher construction, often for work.
In the end, it is less about simply choosing an all-terrain tire and more about evaluating how much adventure you actually need in your life. Between a classic road tire and an extreme off-road tire, there is now a middle ground that is much more interesting than before. For many people, a more comfortable tire like the Trail-Terrain T/A+ will make more sense than a very rugged tire. It just goes to show that the best choice is not always the most extreme one!
